Richard Melnick, of the Greater Astoria Historical Society, will conduct a walking tour of the bridge and this little-known Long Island City area. 1 to 2:30 PM. The tour starts at Hunters Point Avenue/#7 Train Station, Street level east end of station. The Borden Avenue Bridge is a retractile bridge, sliding along a track allowing the bridge to move and ships to pass. Mr. Melnick will transform the steel, brick and mortar into a fascinating 90 minute adventure - please join free tour.
Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion, Jr and Manhattan Borough President Scott M Stringer will do a symbolic walk across the bridge with some surprise events in store, as well as a celebration on each side of the Bridge. This will signify the kick-off of Bronx week.
